Sims 4 doesn’t restrict its players from doing anything as long as they keep their sim alive. There’s no one way that you need to follow to play this game, and that is the reason it has stayed relevant since 2000.
There are numerous things you didn’t know you could do in the game that we will enlighten you about. So let’s take a look.
1. Predetermined Storyline
Aren’t you bored of playing the same storyline day after day? If you are, then this is your time to deviate from the path and try a different storyline created by someone else.
You can choose from numerous storylines; for instance, one of them could be about the death of one of the parents, and your sim would have to raise the child on their own, and so on. Isn’t this a better option rather than repeating the same old story of a normal happy family with two kids and parents?
2. Gallery Family
You can now grab a family and use other simmer’s characters from the gallery to use as your own. You’d have no control over their traits and aspirations, it’d be a complete surprise to you.
You might not have thought of adding a particular trait or other items in the CAS, but someone else might have. The family dynamics might also be different than the ones you’re used to playing with. It’d be an exciting twist to the gameplay.
3. Try Challenges
Sims 4 offers numerous challenges to the simmers that they can try out from time to time. You could choose the legacy challenge, 100 baby challenge, black widow challenge or something else.
It’d be a waste to not use these additions to improve your gameplay. Some challenges might have several rules that you’d have to follow, while others would have a more relaxed structure. So it’s up to you as to which one you want to choose.
4. Add a New Mod
There are thousands of mods that simmers have created to add more depth to the game and do things that the base game won’t allow you to, such as the extreme violence mod. These mods can add to your sim’s personality, or to the game in the best way possible.
5. Townie Makeovers
A huge makeover is all your sims need to look their best, and the EA doesn’t create exciting characters, so it’s up to the simmers to take up that task. You can have fun with their personalities, mix up their traits and aspirations, and try out all that the game has to offer. You can use CAS full edit mode cheat to transform every town member and connect with them more.
6. Create a Super Sim
If you’re super bored, try creating a super sim who will make it their mission to complete every aspiration, earn every reward trait, pursue every profession, and maximize every single skill.
There might be several things in the game that you wouldn’t have had the chance to use till now, but you can do that with this option. So much to do, but your super sim can handle it all.
7. Play a Legacy Challenge
You might have noticed how difficult it is to get past one generation of the family, where your sim gives birth to children and they grow up, and have children of their own.
But you can now play the legacy challenge where you’ll have to get through 10 generations of your family on the same lot. This would help you bond and connect with your sims on a deeper level.
8. Complete a Collection
Sims 4 offers numerous collections to the simmers that some aren’t aware of and the ones that are haven’t completed them. So to pass your time, take up one collection at a time, and complete that to receive a plaque, and soon your collectible room would be full of such awards. You can begin with some of these collections,
- Metals
- MySims Trophies
- Crystals
- Elements
9. Get New DLC
Sims 4 is popular for offering several DLCs to its players. You can find a lot of downloadable packs that can contribute a lot to the gameplay. You might want to add a new expansion or stuff pack to give your sims a new twist. You might get a welcomed break from your usual routine if you go for a pack like Vampires or Realm of Magic.
10. Try a Scenario
Scenarios are like small in-game challenges that your sim comes across, such as finding love after break up, etc. As your game updates, these challenges would be added on their own, so all you have to do is embrace them and play along.
11. Download a Save File
Now you can download another simmer’s saved file and add new worlds to your game, without any effort from your end. So other simmers would put in all the hard work, and all you have to do is enjoy that. Here are a few of the saved files that you can try out.
- Uberhood by Another Plumbob
- Simsie Save by lilsimsie
- Plumbella’s Save File
- Simlicy Save
12. Play Evil
One of the cool things to do in Sims 4 is if your sim could become evil and torture other sims? How long can a person play the same storyline or family structure, right?
So try out the various evil and chaotic stories that the game offers with a lot of gory details at times, such as the different ways for your sim to die and so on.
If you want to have a go at evil, then you can maybe host a pufferfish nigiri party, lock other sims in your basement, or other such ways to create chaos.
You can also get a pond for your house with fishes, if you have Sims 4: Get Famous, and ask sims to jump in and decide which one should live.
13. Try Rotational Gameplay
If you’re in for a challenge, then you must try the rotational gameplay where every sim has two households in a single saved game, or you could even play all the households.
To do so, you’d have to disable autonomous ageing and control everything that goes on. It’d be like directing a series with multiple characters, and it’d eventually make you more attached to your sims. You’ll look after each family for a few hours before moving on to the next one.
14. Change your Lifespan
Your sims can either have short, long, or normal lifespan, which you can change whenever you want. Your decision making is also affected by their lifespan, because if they have a short life, you’d have to make quick decisions regarding their marriage, children, and so on.
On the other hand, if they have a long life, you’d be able to take your time with everything without feeling the urgency to do things.
15. Start with Zero Simoleans
Earning money in Sims 4 is quite easy, but if you want your sim to work hard, then why not start with zero simoleans instead. This way your sim would start from the bottom, without a house or anything to live on.
They’ll connect with nature, search for collectibles, sleep outside, and so on. It’d be a difficult journey, but you’d feel more satisfied once you start earning.
16. Plan your Family Before Starting
One more thing that you can do to make the game more interesting is to plan a layout of your sim’s family before creating them. Think about what all traits they would have, their likes, dislikes, hobbies, and so on. It’d make the game and your character more realistic when you plan out each and every detail. It’ll make you want to play the game for a long time.
17. Add New Holidays
Apart from the pre-existing holidays in the game like Love Day or Winterfest, you have the option of customizing your own holidays. How fun! You can create these holidays based on your personal religious or cultural beliefs. This way, the game won’t feel too monotonous, and you’d have something to look forward to.
18. Switch out Townies for Your Sims
As you play this game for a long time, you’d start recognizing every single sim in the town, and you’d start feeling bored at one point of time by seeing the same faces again and again.
So you can now replace these townies with the sims that you’ve created. This way, you can control who should live in the town, how many toddlers or elders do you want, and also add interesting families to spice things up.
19. Try a Different Family Structure
It’s quite common to get bored if you keep playing a vanilla game with no twists and turns. So to change things up a little, why not modify your family structure and add steps parents, or abandoned children to the mix? You could also try playing with LGBTQ+ couples to add more color and excitement into the game.
20. Renovate the Whole World
The build mode in the game makes things so much easier, especially if you’re planning on renovating the worlds. You can transform the virtual world in any way you like and give it a completely different vibe. Add new sims and families to these worlds, and it’d draw you back to play more.
21. Try Random Aspirations
Why stick with only a select few aspirations when the game offers you a whole bunch of variety? It’s time to mix things up a little and give your character other aspirations, such as master mixologist, or friend of the world, etc. A whole new path would open up for you and your sim to explore.
22. Let the Drama Flow
We humans survive on drama, and Sims 4 is the right place to bring out the crazy side of you and go wild. There are endless possibilities for you to dictate the storyline.
You can make your sims cheat on each other, or cause an argument between two best friends, get a teen sim pregnant, and so much more. Who wants a plain game when you can have so much fun being chaotic.
23. Create Interesting Kids and Teens
You’re the one who has to look after your sims the whole time, and it’d be of no use if you aren’t in love with your character. So, it’s essential to create your sims to be as interesting as possible, and the most important thing to do for this is to help them befriend other sims.
They can have crushes, best friends, or even an eternal lover, and you can invite them over for a sleepover. You can have a lot of fun with the characters if you do this.
24. Play with Occults
The best thing about The Sims is that every player can find their niche. It’s not compulsory to play a normal sim with a normal life. Sims fascinated by the supernatural can create characters that are vampires, or witches. The game packs Realm of Magic and Vampires offers numerous exciting features to the simmers, and it’ll be a whole new world for you.
25. Make Your Sims Eat, Breathe, and Live Grilled Cheese
This feature is as fun as it sounds, and was first introduced in Sims 2. The sims with the grilled cheese aspiration are addicted to grilled cheese and eat it all the time. The ones who complete this aspiration can summon grilled cheese out of thin air. Simmers with Sims 2 can also enjoy low cooking skill requirements to make this amazing dish any time of the day.
26. Change your Sims Emotions with Art
You must be aware about moodlets, and the impact they have on your sim’s emotions. But did you know that your sim’s mood can become better by looking at paintings? It depends on the painting they are gazing at that would determine their mood.
27. Watch ExtraTerrestrial News
Some of your sim’s skills, such as handiness and careers, like the scientist career can do more than they are appreciated for. Sims can upgrade the objects in their house and even discover hidden tv channels.
One of the channels allows them to watch a fake fireplace while the other lets them listen to news from an alien planet. If an alien sim watches this news, they’d start feeling homesick.
28. You Can Drain Your Sim’s Sanity
Now this feature is quite cruel and gruesome because it allows you to test your sim’s sanity. Since this game doesn’t restrict you from doing anything because you’re the creator of your character, some simmers take it to a whole new level.
For instance, Vsanna, a reddit user put her neatfreak sim in a room with a wedding buffet, a rodent, and deleted the door. Eventually the sim went crazy after staying in a messy room and depressed over their rodent’s death.
Once the food from the buffet rotted away, they died of starvation. They did the same to other sims as well, and kept each one’s urn in the room for the next one to witness. At the end, The tenth sim was terrified the entire time in the house because he kept seeing ghosts of himself.
29. Create a Haunted House
If you want to have your own haunted house, then you need a big house with two floors and a basement. Design this house as you like with antique items and odd decor. You’d have to put in the effort of creating ghosts, and decide how you want the sims to die. With no door in sight, the sims would die from fear of the previous sims that died there.
30. Add Your Own Music to the Game
Since the first Sims game, songs have been added to the game, but they aren’t as incredible or worth listening to. So players can add their own music to the game from their phone. To do so, make sure all your songs are in .mp3 and go to the Sims folder with and transfer your music files into the Custom Music Folder.
31. Play Multiplayer Game on Console
The Sims has introduced the option “The Sims Bustin’ Out” for players to play the game as a multiplayer, but this is only possible when using a console. This feature isn’t compatible with PCs. Using the split screen, you and your friend can build a life together in sims or wreak havoc, it’s up to them.
32. You Can Have a Painting Goblin
The concept of Painting Goblin came into limelight when two simmers “Call me Kevin” and Jim Pickens used it in Sims 4. Painting Goblins are normal pre-made or abducted sims that are locked in a basement and create paintings all day to earn a livelihood for the rest of the household.
The Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack introduced the knitting goblins. So there are several things you can make these goblins do to earn money and these are considered one of the many funnest things to do in the game.
33. Open a Shop of Horrors
This fun interaction is based on Audrey II, the killer plant from the popular 80s musical and film “Little Shop of Horrors.” The Sims 4 has a similar concept with the Cow Plant that is a carnivore and can eat any meat, including sims’ meat.
The first time that it eats a sim, they’d spit it off and the sim would feel like an emotionless shell, but the second time that it eats a sim, they won’t survive, and become a ghost. The Cow Plant lures the sim with a cake, and then kills them.
34. Laughter Can and Will Kill You
Laughing or telling jokes is a good way for your sims to get the happy moodlet and also befriend other sims quickly. But be careful because if your sim’s happiness moodlet reaches 15 or more than that, it’d turn into hysteria and they won’t be able to stop themselves. They’ll eventually die from suffocation. Sims who are comedians are more prone to falling into hysteria.
35. No Need for Your Sims to Age
If you’re happy with your sim’s age then you can disable the aging option whenever you want. This would give you all the time in the world to explore new things in the game with your sim. This is only possible in PC versions, though. You no longer have to stress about them dying.
36. Unlock the Sylvan Glade
Sylvan Glade is considered one of the most gorgeous locations in Sims 4 with beautiful aesthetics. To unlock this location, send your sim to the Crick Cabana lot in Willow Creek and make them look for a special tree.
Once they do, make your sim stare at that tree and they’ll soon climb it and enter the world of Sylvan. Your sim can then enjoy the place and walk around, but don’t get too comfortable because underneath the beautiful pond is a pair of glowing red eyes, and if your sim ventures too near to the pond, it’d disappear with a laugh.
37. Become a Super Villain
The Sims 4 has released a new career where your sims can work as secret agents and earn 17 simoleans an hour. They’d work on undercover projects and as they keep on succeeding, they’d be promoted six times before becoming either The Diamond Agent or Villain.
But being the Diamond Villain is a much better option because your sim would be paid generously for using their villainous ways instead of playing with the good guys. As the game progresses, your sim would also get a freeze ray.
If you’ve a change of heart and don’t wish to continue playing the role of a villain, you can be promoted to Triple Agent and work for the right people again. They won’t trust you again, but you’ll get a good pay.
38. You Can Befriend Bigfoot
Bigfoot is the sim’s favorite character, and to reach them, you need to find the secret map to his house. If your sim goes for a hike, treasure hunting, or search for pirate ships, then they can find the map. Bigfoot is like a normal sim, but they are excessively friendly.
They’ll give you a hug and get along with everyone and after spending a lot of time with them, you can invite them to your house, and play with them as well. However, he won’t be the most hygienic house member, and eat all your food but they’d be your friends for life.
39. You Can Spot Nessie
You might have heard some people saying that they had spotted the Loch Ness Monster, but did they? So you can go to the Vacation Island, downtown or stay in your neighbourhood screen and hope that you see a Loch Ness Monster.
In Sims 4, you have a similar monster, Nessie resembling the Loch Ness Monster in the previous versions. It’s easier to find Nessie in the waters of Windenburg, and you might spot her for a few seconds , if you’re lucky.
40. Earn Royalties Off Songs
Every simmer is aware that the sims can learn to play instruments and even become a rock star, but the ones who don’t become famous can still earn money out of these skills without any mod.
If your sim maximizes their Guitar skill, then they can write and record songs, and eventually publish them. Once they do this, they’ll start earning royalties off that song, but the royalties would gradually start decreasing because a song doesn’t stay relevant for long. So your sim must publish new songs frequently to earn money.
41. Make Jam
Your sim can now earn money by making jam all day. With a decent kitchen and a bare minimum cooking skill, they can cook jam with some fruits. This might be a mundane task, but sometimes simplicity in life is all we need.
42. Build a Robot Friend
Some sims might be interested in how things work, or are fascinated by robotics then they can pursue this somewhat complex hobby. This hobby might be a challenge for some, but you’d feel quite accomplished once you finish building a robot, such as RoboNannies or Cleaner-Bots. A robo might make things more exciting if you’re bored of your usual routine.
43. Befriend a Smart Speaker or a Talking Toilet
The Sims 4 has introduced some new objects, which are Lin-Z and Potty Mouth 2.0. Lin-Z is inspired by Alexa whereas Potty Mouth is a talking toilet.
It’d be a weird friendship, but something to have fun with. Lin-Z would respond to your needs, like ordering food for you or hiring a maid, and on the other hand, Potty Mouth will allow your sims to watch TV while on the toilet, get a massage, or increase their hygienic bar.
44. Kill or Age a Sim with Bouquet
Like they say, an empty mind is the devil’s workshop. The same might be true for some simmers who are too bored and are thinking of creative ways to kill off their sims.
When sims reach level 9 of the gardening skill, they can add a death flower to their flower arrangement, and if a sim is not an elder, they’ll merely age up while an elder sim might die from it.
45. Craft Musical Instruments
Players are aware that sim can learn to play musical instruments, but what they might not be aware of is that they can even create these instruments using the woodworking table. However, sims with a level 8 in musical as well as handiness skill can use this feature.
46. Death by Embarrassment
Sims 4 has made it difficult to create your sim in the game, but they’ve also come up with creative ways if you do want them to die. So one of those ways is if your sim has done a lot of embarrassing things in a short period of time, such as saying something inappropriate, having their privacy invaded, or peeing in public, then they might die of mortification and humiliation.
47. Visit an Alien World
Sims can now go to the Alien world, Sixam and meet extraterrestrial beings. But this option is only available to sims who have reached the peak of their scientist career. They’ll receive an invitation to join aliens on their planet.
48. Resurrect Sims with a Book
We’ve talked a lot about the many ways for your sim to die, but let’s talk about resurrecting them. You already know the basic ways to do so, like begging the Grim Reaper to spare them or by drinking an elixir to stop their sims from ageing. But there’s another way, if the sims have the highest level in writing and bestselling author career, then they can write the sim’s epic life saga and use this book to revive them.
49. Meet a Mysterious Hermit
Sims who want to pursue the art of gardening and herbs must visit the hermit in Granite Falls who lives in a wooden house surrounded by plants. Other determined sims can also visit him by going through a shrub from Granite Falls to reach his home. However, your sim would have to befriend the hermit so that he can trust them to share his secret of the “Fungal Infusion Fertilizer Remedy.”
50. Turn Trash to Treasure
If sims leave their out for too long, it’ll start rotting and make the sims uncomfortable. But what if I told you that doing so would work in your favor? If your sim interacts with the trash, then they can turn it into a trash plant. Once this plant bears fruits, the sims can eat it.
51. Live As Your Sim
Sims has always been a fun game where the players have entire control of their life, but now you can play the game with a first person perspective and view the Sims world from their point of view. It might cause glitches, but it’s worth it trying out this feature.
52. Have a Grim Reaper as Roommate
There’s no one stopping you from choosing a quirky roommate for your sim, so let your sim befriend a vampire, or a witch. They could even have a Grim Reaper as your roommate. To do so, Click ctrl + shift +c and type “testingcheats on.” Now press shift + click on the Grim Reaper and add them to your household.
53. Enter a Long Lost Grotto
Another exciting hidden location in The Sims 4 is behind the Desert Bloom Park in Oasis Spring, where the sims would notice a mine entrance. But only if your sim has a level 10 in handiness skill can they actually break the mine to enter the Forgotten Grotto with rare crystals, fishes, and so on.
Conclusion
I’m certain that there are numerous things that you’d want to try after reading this article, and we urge you to start trying out these interactions and features to avoid getting bored of the game because we know that not playing this game is the last thing you want to do. So start checking off the items from this list of fun things to do in Sims 4.
